# Building a brand system with Claude Design

Yesterday I started exploring building a @mercury web Design System with @claudeai Design and it inferred 90% of our core components by just pointing to a local version of our frontend code:
Today I'm building a brand design system. I connected natively to a @github repo through their official connection UI. I also pointed to a local version of our marketing site in a folder.
I gave Claude Design some direction that I wanted this kit to be for our Mercury Brand and more built around building presentation decks, and other visual assets and less for UI. Given that I was pleased to see it going deeper into typographic expression, matching our site's use of Tiempos for editorial blog/Meridian content (would make @jessicahische proud):
Claude even created a prose and dropcap version of our type.
Claude Design builds a «UI kit» for the main assembly of components, etc. Since the repo was a marketing site, it leaned in and build a website exploration kit:
Impressed by support for mixed sans/serif, a style we use on a handful of pages.
Because I asked for presentation support, Claude Design built a presentation kit for this purpose. This is where things get interesting. Everything in a Claude Code design system is basically something you can prompt and refine. It's Claude all the way down. This means you can at any point zoom in to a piece of kit and prompt with images/screenshots, PDFs, etc. to refine and get it exactly like you want it:
Everything is a prompt. Anything can be refined and improved over time. It's up to you to dial it in.
Even color is quick and easy to refine to get what you need. I've been quietly impressed by the ability of Claude Design to even get colors right from pasted screenshots from Figma. (for whatever reason .fig import hasn't worked for me yet but I'm hoping this will get fixed soon).
Lastly, everything in your system lives in a directory which includes a SKILL.md and a README.md for sharing with others on your team and to specify how the system can be used.
Sharing options have granular controls to enable others on your team to collaborate on the system.
I don't see Claude Design as a replacement for @figma. Speccing components and building flows has a refinement in Figma that this tool doesn't really seem to be intended for.
Where I see Claude Design being powerful is to build shared ways of vibing, exploring, and playing with solutions in product and brand without having to fuss with managing Git locally. This will open up the way the an entire team across marketing, compliance, and product can quickly explore ideas to build shared understanding.
