This must be a little like how Tony Stark feels talking to Jarvis.
I'm really excited that we just launched ChatGPT Voice across Work and Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app.
I don't know about you but my thoughts rarely arrive as perfectly structured prompts. I usually start explaining one thing, remember something related, and realize there are several pieces of work that could move forward independently.
I would much rather talk through that messy version, answer follow-up questions, and let Voice turn the different pieces into work.
There is one active voice conversation, but it can coordinate several separate tasks. I can think out loud, ask ChatGPT to split the work, and keep talking while those tasks run.
I can ask what has finished, hear about blockers, interrupt a response, or redirect a specific task. AGI, am I right?

## How to get started
Open a new chat or task in the desktop app and select the Start new voice chat icon. The first time, you’ll be asked to allow microphone access and choose a voice.
Once the conversation starts, you can switch to another window and keep talking. The blue Voice circle stays with you. You can drag it wherever you want, mute ChatGPT’s audio, mute your microphone or just end the conversation.

Under Settings → Voice, you can choose a voice, set a global hotkey to start Voice from anywhere on your desktop, and enable Screen Context on macOS.
With Screen Context enabled, ChatGPT can take an appshot of your foreground window when you refer to something on screen. It is not continuous screen sharing, and macOS asks for permission the first time.

## When I reach for Voice
Voice is most useful to me when the hard part is getting everything out of my head, not typing the final sentence. I reach for it when:
- I’m joining an ongoing discussion and need to talk through the context before I know the right question
- One thought contains several tasks that can run in parallel
- I want to brainstorm and have ChatGPT challenge my idea or compare tradeoffs
- I’m looking at a design, document, Slack thread or code and want to refer to what's already on screen
- My hands or attention are elsewhere, but I still want to move the work forward
- Several tasks are already running and I want an update, need to resolve a blocker, or want to change direction
## What this looks like in practice
If you are an engineer:
> Look at this failing test.
> Start one task to reproduce it reliably.
> Start another to inspect the changes since the last passing run.
> Start a third to review the surrounding tests for similar failures.
> Compare the findings and tell me the most likely root cause before changing any code.
If you work in product:
> Look at this launch discussion.
> Start one task to separate confirmed decisions from suggestions.
> Start another to compare the user impact and technical tradeoffs of each option.
> Start a third to find the important questions nobody has answered.
> Then draft recommended next steps with links back to the evidence.
If you work in sales:
> Help me prepare for my next customer call.
> Start one task to review the recent emails and meeting notes.
> Start another to list every commitment, owner, and outstanding question.
> Start a third to find relevant product context for the topics they raised.
> Give me a five-minute briefing and draft a follow-up, but do not send anything.
If you create content:
> I want to produce a podcast episode about AI agents.
> Start one task to research the most interesting current debates.
> Start another to develop three possible angles.
> Start a third to gather credible sources.
> Start another to build the production and promotion checklist.
> Then recommend the strongest story. Do not contact anyone or publish anything yet.
Or if you are moving apartments, like I am in two weeks:
> Start one task to compare the moving quotes in my email.
> Start another to create a room-by-room packing plan.
> Start a third to list everywhere I need to change my address.
> Start another task to check my calendar and find realistic blocks of time for packing.
> Tell me what requires a decision or booking before taking action.
And because Voice supports natural interruptions, I can jump in halfway through:
> Wait. Optimize all of this for the version of me who will procrastinate until the final weekend. Update the affected tasks, create a first-night essentials list, and tell me the three things I need to do today.
Here's a quick example of me asking ChatGPT to help with my move.

## Why I’m excited
For me, the value is not just that speaking can be faster than typing.
It's removing the gap between me having a random work or personal thought and putting things into motion. I can talk ChatGPT through an unfinished idea, turn its different parts into separate tasks, and move my attention somewhere else while the work continues.
One conversation can move a surprising amount of work forward. You'll be surprised so I encourage you to give it a try today!

Voice
