-- there are Billions of style reference codes in Midjourney
-- here's how to master every single one of them
## Step 0. Find Your Style
-- find a style you genuinely enjoy
-- if you don't like it, mastering it will become a lot harder
-- if you're struggling to find one you like, read the article below
-- or...
-- if you'd prefer for me to find you one...
-- feel free to shoot me a message and I'd be more than happy to help you create your own custom style
-- its what I love doing every day and I always find it a pleasure helping you find your style
## Step 1. Pick The Right Subject
-- once you've found the style you love, you may be wondering how can I get the most out of it?
-- most styles don't work because you are simply giving them the wrong subject for them to bring to life
-- don't get me wrong, the great thing about these style codes is that they can capture many moments in their own unique way
-- with the best ones working basically no matter what you give them
-- however, to get the best possible output, you have to give it the best possible input (prompt)
-- to show you what I mean, let's have a look at two polar opposite themes and the styles that fit them accordingly
-- middle earth vs sci-fi
-- the first style is rough around the edges, grainy and screams ancient times
-- that's why it works perfectly with a subject from a time in the past, e.g. middle earth (think wizards, ruins, relics etc etc)
-- the second style is smooth, clean and screams modern times
-- that's why it works perfectly with a subject for a time today or in the future, e.g. sci-fi (think tech, AI, robotics etc, etc)
-- could you swap the subjects and still get a interesting, super compelling output?
-- absolutely...
-- but when starting to master a style, its important to get the basics right and not to try and make anything too abstract too soon
-- if you're struggling for some subject ideas, here are some I find work well and the prompts that go with them
> a person wearing XXX
(using a big clothing brand that Midjourney and other LLMs will understand helps a lot and creates pieces of clothing that feel authentic and real)
> plain background, character
(using 'person' instead also works well, however 'character' often adds a bit a flair and unexpected traits)
> people surfing
(surfing/skateboarding/kayaking etc are all really cool activities that often bring a lot of textures to life in the best way)
> Parisian XXX
(using a well-known city such as Paris, Tokyo, London etc, really works well with certain styles and gives you a lot of urban topics to chose from)
> 35mm
(ok...so this is almost the opposite of giving a subject, as you are literally letting the style choose what it wants to include here, however I find just using "35mm" often creates some really photogenic results)
## 2. Pick The Right Colour Palette
-- where I see things go wrong for a lot of people is trying to force certain colours that don't match the natural palette of the style
-- sref codes are very consistent with colour, so if you try and give a style that suits a blue dominated style a red prompt, or a green dominated style a purple prompt, it will probably just all fall apart
-- a good rule of thumb is if the style already has a great palette, just roll with it
-- however for certain tweaks here and there, keep it very minimal and make sure to pick colours that make sense across the entire image AND the specific components
-- for example with skies, for the style below, best not ask for a orange/red sunrise when it loves doing plain blue
-- similarly with this one, don't ask for clear bright skies as it loves dark and muted pinks/reds/purples
-- don't be afraid to push the style palette harder, for example, with the two styles below, asking it to have more 'earthy tones' or 'strong neon accents' really makes sure the style keep true
-- for styles with every colour, it's probably best to not suggest any specific colours at all, as you lose the beautiful effects they bring
-- at the other end of the spectrum for black and white styles, I'd recommend again keeping it tame and not asking to add random colours, weirdly when you do ask for them it loses it style completely and becomes quite photographic
## 3. Pick The Right Composition:
-- when you're an AI living in the ether, North doesn't mean much
-- although they are all starting to find a compass
-- Midjourney and most AI's in general struggle quite a lot with spatial parameters, so its always best to keep compositions as simple as possible
-- and to always match the composition to the style
-- for example, if your style uses a plain background, try to centralise your subjects and keep the space around it even
-- if you style is more cinematic, try to keep to the rule of thirds
-- if your style includes a lot of text, best again keep the subject strong in the middle and let the words do their magic in forming the shape of the images
-- if your style includes lots of people, have some people in the foreground closer and others in the background further away
-- if your style includes action shots, no always but the closer and more macro the better
## 4. Pick What YOU Like
-- now this one is important
-- if you only create things you think others will like, you'll just end up looking the same as everyone else
-- you have your own perspective
-- so let it shine and believe in your own taste
-- if you truly go for you
-- and keep to the tips and tricks in this article
-- I know you'll create something special

-- thank you for reading and remember to have fun with it
-- 💚
